9&10 News Special Report - Mistaken
Identity, an Interview With Whitney Cerak's
Parents.
Two years after a case of mistaken identity, involving this Northern Michigan woman, her family is sharing their story.
Their private pain was felt around the world as word spread about the unthinkable, a daughter thought to be dead, determined to be alive.
One woman was buried under the wrong name and the other cared for in the hospital by the wrong family.
One of them was thought to be Whitney Cerak of Gaylord.
It was later determined that Whitney survived the crash and Laura Van RYN actually died.
9 and 10's Kimberly Purdy talked with Whitney's parents.
The Cerak and Van Ryn families collaborated on a book, released last month.
The two families share a strong bond and are like one.
And they wanted to share their story about faith, family, strength, support, hope and how Whitney had been healed, with the world.
I asked Newell and Colleen if they had any messages for others.
They said, treasure time with your family, remember every day is a gift and learn to love, forgive and enjoy life.
Whitney went back to school the fall after the accident.
She's on track to graduate with her class in 2009.
Currently, she is studying abroad in Ireland.
This past weekend, Taylor university in Indiana dedicated a memorial prayer chapel to Laura VanRyn and the other four people who died on April 26th, 2006.
